Christ The King Parish Ministry of Care

Christ The King Parish Ministry of Care serves the needs of those sick, elderly and lonely members of our parish family.

From lay-led services in Extendicare facilities, and home visits, to our prayer shawl mininstry and arranging taxi rides to Mass, care for you and your family during life's challenging times is one of our primary concerns.

Do you and/or your family have a special concern for the ill, lonely or elderly? Do you love to meet new people and provide a friendly smiling face, or comforting shoulder to people in need of joy and Christ's peace?

Do you or someone you know of have need of any of these services?

Please do not hesitate to phone our Pastoral Care Minister, Connie Moker-Wernikowski at 539-6889, email her, or contact the parish office

"Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely and the unwanted according to the graces we have received and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work." ~Mother Teresa

Anointing of the Sick
This special encounter with Christ's healing touch is celebrated publically twice a year in the parish and the Extendicare facilities during weekday and weekend Masses. Father also celebrates the sacrament of the Sick twice yearly with the residents of our private care homes, and the shut-ins who reglarly receive communion from one of our ministers. If you or a loved one are about to undergo surgery, or are suffering from a serious and/or chronic illness please phone Connie Moker-Wernikowski at 539-6889, email her, or contact the parish office to make arrangements with Father to recieve this sacrament.

Extendicares
Our Parish Ministry of Care volunteers provide Sunday Communion Services at three Extendicare Homes: Parkside, Elmview, and Sunset. Teams of lay men and women, and in some cases whole families, also provide special lay lead services on holy days such as Christmas and Ash Wednesday and memorial services for those who have died. Once a month Father says a weekday Mass once a month at each Extendicare Home. Besides these liturgical services, the extendicare residents receive personal visits, the Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Communion brought to their rooms.

Private Care Homes
Catholic residents in the eight private care homes in our parish are visited weekly and brought Holy Communion.

Shut-ins in their Own Homes People who are permanently or temporarily shut into their own homes due to sickness or surgery receive a friendly caring visit and are brought Holy Communion.

Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Volunteers prayerfully knit prayer shawls. These shawls are then blessed at a mass before the whole community and delivered to people who could benefit from the warmth, blessings and caring prayer that these shawls represent.

Rides to Church on Sunday
We now have a taxi service to Sunday mass to help those who don't drive in the winter. The cost per rider is $10/Sunday. The taxi will make a circuit to pick up the riders starting at 9:15 am and will bring everyone back home after mass. If you wish to participate in this service, please call Connie at 539-6889.
