Spiritual direction encourages you to explore a closer relationship with God. In the midst of a busy life, many people
find it difficult to notice God's action in their daily affairs. yet, at the deepest level, all of us long for a more conscious
experience of God's presence and love.
In spiritual direction you reflect deeply on the experiences of your daily life. Gradually, as you contemplate, you may begin to recognize
God's presence and grace in your life. You may come to realize how God's spirit is truly with you every day and everywhere. You
discover that God has been waiting for you to seek this closer relationship.
Spiritual direction is not really about being "directed". Rather, it is very much about being encouraged to draw closer to God. Spiritual
Direction is the process whereby the Spiritual director accompanies you in your faith journey and listens with you to the movement of
God in your life and daily experiences. Articulating and sharing your innner experience provides greater insight, deeper awareness and
surer discernment in your efforts to live life more fully.
Spiritual Direction is not therapy or counselling. It is the exercise of listening, with a trusted companion, to the voice of God as it is
whispered in the midst of your own times of prayer, your expereinces of worship and communion, and most explicitly, within the regular expereinces of
your own life.
The Archdiocese of Regina has commissioned lay persons, religious sisters and priests as Spiritual Directors for this powerful contemplative listening
ministry. These spiritual directors have been given extensive training and formation and are well-versed in the art of contemplative listening.
These dedicated women and men continue to tend their own spiritual lives by engaging in ongoing education, confidential peer supervision
and meet regularily with their own spiritual directors.
Everyone can benefit from having someone to talk to regarding matters of the spirit. You may find spiritual direction especially helpful if...
+ You find yourself wanting to deepen your relationship with God.
+ If you feel as though your search for God, or your relationship with God is at a crossroad.
+ If you want to explore new ways to pray, or if prayer has become difficult, tedious, or non-existent.
+ If you feel the need for help in discerning God's plan for you.
+ If you desire an attentive and listening compainion on your spiritual journey.
You and your spiritual director will agree upon a convenient time and location for your visists, usually once a month for an hour. You can expect your director to listen and to ask reflective questions about the things you desire to share. Your director may suggest resources for prayer, often scriptural, as well as offering a variety of different ways to pray. Since spiritual direction has as it's foundation, the belief that God communitcates through our ordinary human experience, you will be urged to pay attention to the events of your life so as to notice God's nudges, invitations, challenges and confirmations. You may also be assured that whatever is shared between you and your director will be held in the strictest confidence.
The recommended offering is $20 - $40 or one hour's wage per one hour session. At no time should your financial situation prevent you from
seeking direction. This is something that can be discussed in confidence at the initial interview with your director.
