CHRIST THE KING PARISH IS LOCATED ON TREATY 4 TERRITORY, THE TRADITIONAL LANDS OF THE NEHIYAWAK , NAHKAWE, AND NAKOTA, AND HOMELAND OF THE DAKOTA, LAKOTA AND METIS PEOPLES.
Love the Lord, Encounter the Lord, Serve all people
Christ the King parish was established with the appointment of Father Emmett Mooney as Pastor by Archbishop M.C. O’Neill on September 3, 1955. Mass was celebrated in the basement of neighboring St. Pius X school for the next sixteen months. Midnight of December 24, 1956 saw our community’s first Mass celebrated in our new church. Over the years the complex has grown to include the front tower, Parish hall, offices, the Parish Centre and the rectory. Currently the rectory has been converted to more offices, a board room and The Gathering Place and incudes a wonderful space in the basement mostly used for youth events like F.A.M. and Spark.
The faith community of Christ the King includes the entire area enclosed by Albert Street and Regina Avenue and extending to the city limits. We currently are home to approximately 800 households and look forward to welcoming many more into our family of faith.
The Archdiocese of Regina is located on Treaty 4 Territory. The treaties agreed upon in our past were to ensure that non-indigenous settlers had peaceful use of the land in exchange for certain entitlements and rights. Over time many of the treaty provisions were negated by various governments. Treaties are living agreements - there is no end date. As Canadians, we have the responsibility to ensure that these constitutional obligations are met. While we can’t turn back time, we invite all to learn more about our shared history, including the Church’s part in the residential school system, and how we can now move forward to become a more inclusive church.
