June 25, 2021 - From: Director of Education, Regina Catholic Schools

Dear Families,

Yesterday we learned of the discovery of 751 bodies of Indigenous children at the Marieval Residential School on Cowessess First Nation. This revelation has rocked our country but especially us as Catholic educators  on Treaty Four Land.

The shock has generated grief among all of us but more so for our Indigenous sisters and brothers. It has resurrected horrible reminders and stories of family members who attended residential schools in Canada. This news comes on the heels of 215 bodies of children found at the Kamloops Residential School. This finding has had a profound effect on all of us as it may generate emotions that may require us to seek help. As we approach the end of the school year and with the possibility that more bodies may be found, we want to make sure that we all have access to supports during these trying times.

You are encouraged to discuss those events at home, and to watch for signs of any fears and anxieties that you or your children may experience. Below is a list of organizations that can offer support as we process this terrible news.
